Steadicam history logo

Steadicam systems have been around since the late 1970s, when inventor Garrett Brown sought to develop a way of moving a motion picture camera smoothly & fluidly without the need for a heavy track & dolly or a crane or jib. He also wanted escape the restrictions of these old ideas, and allow the camera to move with the operator whereever he or she went, changing direction, height & angle spontaneously.

These days the Tiffen company continue to develop Brown's ideas, with his continued help, which keep genuine Steadicam rigs at the forefront of motion picture & television innovation, and creating some awe inspiring film sequences in the process.
